Our Earthwork Process
More steps go into the earthworks process than you may realize, and we take pride in optimizing every little step along the way to ensure project success. For Reiss Earthworks, we always begin with a project consultation where we listen to your needs and get acquainted with any other professionals who may be working on the project. Once we create a plan you like, both parties sign a contract with a description of services, terms, and pricing. We will schedule a timeline, monitor weather conditions, and mobilize our machinery and materials to get started on your project. Once it’s complete, we will clean up the area, revegetating the space if you requested in the bidding process, and introduce you to your newly minted outdoor space! The entire process usually takes us less than a month! Here are more details on each step of our process!
Project Design
Our team does not directly offer professional services such as engineering or materials testing. If you choose to utilize external professionals for recommended specialized services, we will support and integrate their expertise into our collaborative efforts. Alternatively, if you opt to self-perform the design and engineering aspects of the project yourself, we are adaptable and committed to working seamlessly under your guidance. The choice is yours.
Project Consultation
Our process begins with a consultation at your site. As we listen to your goals for the project, we’ll reverse engineer a plan together. In developing a plan, we will ask questions about your needs, and concerns for the project. We will collect measurements, determine elevations, and evaluate watersheds, if not already provided by professional services. We may also visualize the project with stakes to ensure our process lines up with your expectations.
You can help us perform an accurate consultation by preparing the site! Please have the site mowed and accessible. Effective communication with all stakeholders is emphasized during this phase to address any concerns and align expectations. This consultation step sets the stage for a successful project by identifying restrictions and potential issues early on and ensuring that the project progresses smoothly from conception to execution.
Commitment
Signing a contract before commencing any work is a fundamental step in establishing a clear and mutually beneficial commitment and understanding between the parties involved. Ensuring that both the client and the contractor have a comprehensive agreement in place, covering aspects such as project scope, timelines, costs, and responsibilities. It also promotes transparency and sets the foundation for a professional and collaborative working relationship.
A deposit will be collected to hold a spot on our schedule for your project. The anticipated start date, agreed upon by both parties, will be determined at this time. Keep in mind the weather may cause the date to move a bit, but we’ll keep you posted if that happens.
Pre-Construction
During pre-construction, we’ll be behind the scenes coordinating crucial details such as sourcing materials and coordinating deliveries. Our team is skilled in advanced scheduling techniques and closely monitors weather conditions to ensure the efficient completion of your project. Materials will be sourced, and deliveries coordinated. Most of the time materials will not be delivered until our arrival. We will let you know of anything due to arrive before our arrival. Utility markings will be requested for any public utilities on site. A representative for each utility will arrive at your property to locate and mark the lines. Safe digging always begins for us with engaging in “Call before you dig” for public utility markings.
Client Prepare for Earthworks Arrival
In preparation for our arrival, please discuss the following information, in detail, with anyone who will be onsite during construction. It is critical that all persons, especially children, pets, livestock, and any other potential obstruction, are always kept away from the work zone. Ensuring the safety of all individuals onsite is the most important and valued task at hand. Our work often involves the use of extremely heavy equipment with limited visibility due to blind spots and operating volumes that make it difficult to hear surrounding sounds making it inherently dangerous.
Ground Breaking & Construction
Next, we’ll bring in the heavy equipment for the second most exciting day — groundbreaking, second only to utilization. If you’re interested, we provide photo opportunities to mark this special day. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy watching the machines at work!
Completion
After careful planning and diligent work, the excavation project reaches its conclusion, revealing a transformed space. From smoothly contoured swales to precisely lasered level sites, every detail reflects our dedication to quality. We are experts in turning visions into reality.
